Dellaykee District Roundtable

Dellaykee District Roundtables are held on the 1st Tuesday of each month, with the exception of July (summer vacation). Doors open at 7:00 pm for 30 minutes of fellowship and the meeting begins promptly at 7:30. Roundtables normally end around 8:30 pm, sometimes earlier, but no later.

The meetings are currently being held at Peace Church in Elkader at 301 North Main St. CLICK HERE FOR A MAP TO ROUNDTABLE

What are the Roundtable Meetings?

The Roundtable meeting is held to disseminate information and to help train Scout leaders. There is a half hour of fellowship to catch up with fellow Scouters followed by an agenda based meeting providing information on all things upcoming in the Scouting world. If the information calls for it, there is also a breakout session for Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts to talk about particular issues relating to each program. To end the meeting, we have the now famous, "Dellaykee Roundtable Drawing" to send our volunteers home with something Scouting related. Items range from patches, mugs, cups, Scout clothing, event shirts, etc. If you have anything to donate to this cause, please contact Dane or Tom Sinclair to add an item.

Who should attend the Roundtable Meetings?

The Roundtable meeting is held for ALL Scouters or for any adult that is interested in becoming involved in Scouting. The sessions are sometimes attended by youth who are in the Order of the Arrow, Venture Crews, Senior Patrol Leaders and Patrol Leaders.

OA MEETINGS AT ROUNDTABLE...Dellaykee Roundtables also feature a Troop Representative OA meeting for the Troops from the Dellaykee District. This meeting also serves as the District meeting for OA Lodge members from our District. All OA activities and plans are discussed at these meetings.

If you have questions regarding these meetings please conatct the Order of the Arrow Timmeu Lodge Executive Committee Member, Kordell Smith at 794-1261.

Roundtable updates

This fall I will record  a district roundtable “podcast” and uploaded to our District Facebook Page and Tweeted on our twitter account. It will be  emailed and added to the District age of Scouts Iowa as well.

A recording of this month’s update can be found here: https://soundcloud.com/dellaykee-district/dellaykee-roundtable-roundup

April’s Update: https://soundcloud.com/little-maquoketa-organics/round-table-round-up-at

Also, this fall I am going to set up a brownbag lunch or evening meeting in Manchester on the next Thursday following Roundtable for the leaders who live in the south part of the district who cannot make roundtable.  I still want to encourage attendance at roundtable, but this meeting would save leaders a trip into Dubuque to access the roundtable boxes, get me out in the district one more time to assist leaders, get council updates out answer questions, and bring our any trading post orders too.   Let me know what you think of this!

DOES YOUR PACK, TROOP OR CREW NEED HELP?  HAVE YOU TRIED YOUR UNIT COMMISSIONER?

Unit commissioners are experienced Scouters whose job is to help you deliver the Scouting Program.  Unit Commissioners are the first and best source of help for your unit. Commissioners are district and council volunteers who help Scouting units succeed. They coach and consult with adult leaders of Cub Scout packs, Boy Scout troops and Venturing crews. Commissioners help maintain the standards of the Boy Scouts of America. They also oversee the unit charter renewal plan so that each unit registers on time with an optimum number of youth and adult members. Your unit commissioner is a link between your unit and the Northeast Iowa  Council.

WE WANT YOU!! --  UNIT COMMISSIONERS

Unit commissioners are a vital part of a Units success. Former and current Scout leaders and volunteers make the best Unit commissioners.  A Unit commissioner helps his or her assigned units during the charter process, School Night and committee meetings, and makes regular visits to the Unit to ensure its success. A Unit commissioner is assigned one to three units, depending on the UC's availability.

If you are interested in becoming a Unit commissioner, please contact one of your District Executives or District Commissioner, Jeremy Smerud.

THE JOURNEY BEGINS NOW….

JTE-White1

The Journey to Excellence program is the performance measurement and recognition program for councils, districts, and units. The goal of this program is to align unit, district, and council performance to maximize results in key performance areas that are directly related to producing a successful, growing, and sustainable Scouting program. The purpose of the awards program is to encourage and reward success in units, districts, and councils.

The Journey to Excellence program will measure your unit’s performance versus process; and help you achieve Scouting’s mission of serving more youth with a higher quality program.  This program brings a framework for planning the year, an evaluation method, provides early warning signs for unit health and guidance in areas of concern, recognition, and benchmarking your progress though out the year.  I highly encourage you to listen to one of the audio recordings and check out the resources available to you on Scouting.org. Click here to answer any Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ).  Still not convinced about the program? Click here for Journey to Excellence "What's in it for me?"   Lost by the new Terms? Click here for Journey to Excellence Glossary.
